Welcome to the Village Imuhira website

The Village Imuhira project was launched in 2005 by a group of friends (Who?) eager to TAKE ACTION and GIVE HOPE to an extremely poor country in desperate need of reconstruction.

Landlocked in the heart of the Great Lakes region of east-central Africa, Burundi (Where?) is slowly recovering from a devastating civil war. Education is now compulsory but infrastructures and training facilities are lacking.

Imuhira” (What?) means “at home” in the local Kirundi language. The project seeks to promote child education, give a sense of belonging to those most vulnerable and stimulate the development of an outlying rural community.

We invite you to discover how the project began and all that’s been achieved during these first few eventful years. Judge the results for yourselves! (History)

Maybe you’ll want to call this project own. (How?)
